Coming from a rich, lavish background of posh country clubs and a luxurious life in the big city, this family of four decides to leave everything behind to return to nature, and embrace simplicity. “Only in Iola” follows the story of a mother
Shanalee, father Perry, son Braydon, and their beloved dog Sadee Dei, as they decide to abandon their bustling yet stressful city life, and relocate to a remote ranch out in the country. Together, the family deals with adversity and challenges as they embrace change while learning how to work and flourish on their ranch. Until now, their lifestyle has been a life of high-end spas, dinner in lavish 5-star restaurants, and driving luxury cars. But all of that stands to change when the family decides to leave the 11th most populated city in the world, a Texas metropolis, for a quiet and peaceful existence in Iola, Texas. With a population of only 300 people, to say Iola is small would be a huge understatement. Away from the busy city, Iola seems like the perfect location for some peace and quiet, for a change of pace, and for teaching their young son the true value of nature. However, while Iola may, in many ways, present itself as idyllic, the family is forced to deal with its fair share of living remotely without sommeliers, waiters and the individuals who made their life an easy one. So far, life in the big city meant they had everything they could wish for at their disposal, with everything was just a short car ride away. In Iola, however, there’s no such thing as putting in a quick call to the right people or being at the designated place quickly. Here, the family must learn how to be resilient and strong, just like the people of Iola. Watch now the tending to a ranch is hard work, as the family works with inhabitants both welcome and not welcome, as well as the challenges, large and small, of country living. Oh, did we mention that Shanalee, Perry, and Braydon have little to no knowledge whatsoever about running a ranch? Together, the family braves predators (bobcats, coyotes, snakes – all are regular guests at the ranch), and raise their own Guinea fowl, ducks, turkeys, chickens, cattle, donkeys and goats. They go from a life of having the finest dishes served to them on a silver platter, to growing their own food right there, on the ranch. There’s failure along the way. There’s disappointment and frustration. But there is also great happiness, as ranch living brings this family closer together in the show "Only in Iola".

Shanalee and Perry are living the good life in a crowded Texas metropolis with their son Braydon, and their dog Sadee Dei. Theirs is a life of luxurious restaurants, pricey country club memberships, spas, shopping, and everything they could possibly want at their fingertips. Yet all of that changed when the family decided to leave behind busy city living, and move to Iola, Texas.
Located in Grimes County, Iola is a small city with a meager population of only 450 inhabitants. Named for colonialist Edward Ariola in the 1830s, Iola has always been a place of seclusion, off the beaten path, as it were. And that’s what makes it ideal for Shanalee and Perry. With a small population, and few modern distractions, Iola is the ideal location for ranch living. Here, one is able to leave behind the constant noise of the city, and rediscover what country living truly is. With Iola measuring little more than one square mile, people coming here may be shocked by the sudden quiet and few interruptions. Incidentally, this also makes Iola a safer place to raise children, and also cattle.
For Shanalee and Perry, it is a dream location, though, as they soon find out, their ranch in Iola is not without peril. Here, they must learn to ward off wildlife predators, such as coyotes, bobcats, snakes, coy dogs, skunks, foxes.
